Happy New Year! Yes, yes, I know I'm a little late but what can you expect with little ones running my life. You know how it goes!
New year means new goals! A goal I've had for a quite a while is to show you how to incorporate PCIT skills into everyday life. It's why I started this blog last year. Using PCIT skills everyday as a mom is really easy and as the kids on TikTok would say: good moms don't gatekeep :)
Labeled praises are the hallmark of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). If caregivers can walk away from PCIT truly encompassing how to give genuine, authentic, specific labeled praises, I feel like I've succeeded as a PCIT coach. So this year, every week I give you a "PRAISE OF THE WEEK!"
Now for starters you must say "Praise of the Week" to the tune of The Addams Family theme song. "Praise of the week (snap snap), Praise of the week (snap snap), Praise of the week, praise of the week, praise of the week (snap snap)" etc. Alright now that's I've got that stuck in your head, you are sure to remember it.
This weeks Labeled Praise is: Thank you for sharing with me!
Examples of how to use this praise:
-When your child tells you about their day, about their struggles, about their successes.
-When your colleague tells you one of their ideas.
-When your spouse gives you a throw blanket on the couch.
-When your child gives you the last cookie. (hahaha I can dream)
Let me know how you plan to use this praise this week!
-Katie Smith, LCSW, Certified PCIT Global Trainer, mom who doesn't gatekeep
